St. Clair Shores, MI Cosmetic Dentist
Porcelain veneers can dramatically change the look of your teeth. Our experienced dentist and team can help create the beautiful smile that you have always wanted. With veneers, you can expect straighter, whiter, and more beautiful teeth.
Veneers are thin shells that are placed and bonded on the surface of your teeth. Although they can be made of different materials, porcelain is most frequently used because of its durability and ability to blend in with your natural teeth.
- Strong: Although porcelain veneers are very thin, they become very strong once bonded to your healthy natural teeth.
- Stain Resistant: Porcelain veneers are non-porous and resist stains.
- Long-Lasting: With proper oral maintenance and regular appointments with our dentist, your veneers can last for years.
- Versatile: While we can make your veneers appear whiter, we can also blend them to match your surrounding teeth. It is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a veneer and the surrounding teeth because they are customized to match tooth color and shape.
Process for Veneers
The process of veneers begins with a consultation with our dentist. You will receive a thorough examination and x-rays. We will carefully answer any questions and concerns you may have about veneers, as well as help you make a decision on the appearance of your smile. Our team will gather information from you and create digital images of your proposed smile. You will be able to see your smile and make adjustments before the procedure begins.
At your next dental appointment, our dentist will remove a very small layer of each tooth’s outer enamel. We will also prepare and reshape your teeth if needed. A local anesthesia may be used but is typically not necessary. Our team will make a mold of your teeth and send it to a dental lab where your dental veneers will be created. This may take between 7 to 10 days. During this time, you may choose to have temporary veneers placed on your teeth while your veneers are being created.
Once your veneers are created, we will remove the temporary veneers and apply your new porcelain veneers with a bonding material. When exposed to light, this bonding material will dry and harden.
After the Procedure
Most patients typically experience some sensitivity in the teeth. This sensitivity should gradually decrease every day.
While porcelain veneers are very durable, they may fracture or break. It is recommended to avoid hard or sharp foods where considerable force is required when eating.
With proper oral health, dental veneers can last for years. It is important to maintain optimal oral health, including daily brushing, flossing and periodic cleanings with our dentist.
